Be the Hope Giver to Help Feed Orphanage Children in Upper West Region of Ghana

The St. Joseph Orphanage is located in Jirapa Municipality in the Upper West Region of Ghana, West Africa. The name of town written in Dagaare as Gyerebaa, is pronounced roughly as jira-‘baa, and means ‘reed-stream’, i.e., a stream of reeds.

The Orphanage was established in 1939 by the Franciscan Missionaries of St. Mary to provide care and protection to children that were accused of causing the death of their mothers.  Later on, the Sisters of Mary Immaculate who were  local to the town took over the management of the orphanage and accepted taking children that are either orphaned or partially orphaned, having been abandoned or taken in due to mental health issues experienced by their parents. The Orphanage is currently headed by Rev Sister Lydia and assisted by Rev. Sister Hacinta.

The orphanage currently has a total of 17 non-sponsored children, 6 girls and 11 boys ranging in age from three years to seven years. Out of the 16 are a set of 6 twins. They children are provided with basic care which includes feeding, clothing and health care.

The orphanage survives on philanthropic support from civil society groups, individuals and religious congregations. Unfortunately, support is not consistent, and as a result, providing for the basic needs of these children can be very challenging at times, increasing the hardship and suffering of the babies and young children. The orphanage is currently facing financial challenges feeding the orphaned children.

Bread of Life International recently started a new fundraising campaign to raise $12,000 to provide ongoing feeding support to St Joseph’s Orphanage in Jirapa, Upper East Region of Ghana and also to safely distribute free hot meals to over 2000 orphaned infants, children, and vulnerable people through our Community Event and family food outreach in Ghana.

The funds will be used to buy baby formula and fortified cereals,  soup ingredients, milo, milk, sugar, maize, rice, millet, tomatoes and fish for the Orphanage to improve the health and reduce hardships of these vulnerable children who are placed in the care of the Jirapa Orphanage and also safely distribute free hot meals to vulnerable children and people in improvished community.

In order to meet our fundraising goal, it will truly take a village. Are you able to support this incredible cause? Any amount you can contribute will make a difference.

Action is needed to feed these orphaned vulnerable children. Make a difference with us today and help us reach our goal.

Thank you for joining us in the fight against hunger.
