Project Summary

Bread of Life International collaborated with SOS Children’s Village, Ghana to reach out to Ashaiman, a poor and impoverished community in Greater Accra Region of South Ghana to safely distribute free package hot meals and drinks to thousands of vulnerable children and families to meet the energy needs of the people during the Christmas Holidays.

Ashaiman is located in the Greater Accra Region of South Ghana and is the capital of Ashaiman Municipal district. Ashaiman has most slumps in the Tema Metropolitan area of Greater Accra Region, with a high population of the most vulnerable in the society. Crime rate is very high, and the living conditions are very poor. Most of the inhabitants of Ashaiman are below the poverty line and can’t afford adequate quantity of good quality food. Those who suffer most are vulnerable children and people who live at the poverty edge of the community.

Project Objective

As part of our Flagship Food Assistance Outreach Program, the goal of this project was to target a specific poor and impoverished community and safely distribute packaged meals and drinks to poor, vulnerable children and low-income families that are experiencing economic hardship and have been impacted by the COVID-19.

Project Accomplishment

Bread of Life International with collaboration with SOS Children’s Village, Ghana, targeted the Ashaiman Zongo community; a hub known for its vulnerable children and families in the municipality which is predominantly a Muslim community. With the help from 23 Youth Volunteers from SOS Children’s Village Tema and 8 other volunteers from the community and 2 police officers to assist in the food community outreach, we safely distributed pack of jollof fried rice with chicken, a soft drink and sachet of cold water to about 600 children.

The volunteers decided to move out of the food distribution center to reach out to more vulnerable children and people in the community. With big truck and motor bikes, we provided over 400 more packed meals to vulnerable children and adults who have lined up on the streets. In total,1,000 package of meals, 1,150 bottles of drinks and 60 bags of water were distributed to the inhabitants of the community.

Bread of Life International would like to thank you for your donation and for supporting our mission to provide food to poor, vulnerable children, families and people that are experiencing pain and stress of food insecurity and to alleviate hunger, one African community at a time.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to SOS Children’s Village, Ghana for their support and all the volunteers that assisted us in this food outreach.

There are many poor and impoverished communities that we would like to reach out to and expand on our program. Support our initiate by donating $5 that will go towards providing two meals for a child.
