Ghana: Delivering meals and drinks to over 600 vulnerable Children in Glefe and Gbegbeyise, Coastal Region of Greater Accra, Ghana, during the Holiday Season, 2022

Bread of Life International with its mission to address hunger and food insecurity and provide support to families (women, children, infants, youth) that face extreme poverty, and hunger partnered with SOS Children’s Villages, Ghana and volunteers within the community safely distributed free package hot meals and drinks to over 600 vulnerable children to meet the energy needs during the Christmas Holidays 2022.

SOS Children’s Village, Ghana has a Family Strengthening Programme (FSP), a preventive measure whereby the families belonging to the most vulnerable sections of the society, those who are lost in the quagmire of poverty, social discrimination and are facing many other challenges to make ends meet are strengthened to avoid abandonment of children.

With our mission to support families and children that are hungry and hurting, Bread of Life International decided to partner with SOS Children’s Village FSP Program to safely distribute food to the vulnerable children in Glefe, located near the sea, a waterlogged slums community at the Dansoman in the Ablekuma West Municipality of Greater Accra.

Glefe and Gbegbeyise communities, Accra, Ghana

Before the distribution of food to the vulnerable children within the community, the National Youth Development Advisor with the Youth Development Worker together in the company of some volunteers from the SOS Family Strengthen (FS) at Glefe paid a visit to the Chief’s Palace and the Assembly Member of the community to seek their approval and blessings for the event which they approved. They work together to select the location to distribute the food and a park near the Gbegbeyise police station was approved by the chief and Assembly Member for the party for the children. The Assembly Member immediately after the meeting was concluded started making announcement at the local information center concerning the event.

Food distribution to Vulnerable children

The volunteers safely distributed food to each child which contained a pack of jollof/ fried rice with chicken, a soft drink, and bottle of water. There was an overwhelming number of children, and the volunteers couldn’t be able to cope with the demand.

The Volunteers also distributed foods to the children on the street and in the next community.  In all, 600 packs of food, 650 bottles of Beta malt and 640 bottles of water were distributed.

Bread of Life International will like to thank all our donors that contributed to our Food Assistance Aid Programs targeting impoverish Families (women, infants & children). Without their contribution, we could not execute the project.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Alex Kekula, National Director of SOS Children’s Village, Tema, Ghana,  Godknows Kporha, the National Youth Development Advisor, the FS Coordinator, Youth Development Worker, the Assembly Member and staff of DSW and SOS Children’s Volunteer Youth and others that collaborated with Bread of Life International to safely distributed the food to these vulnerable children during the holiday seasons.

There are many poor and impoverished infants and children that we would like to reach out and support. You can join us by donating $10 per month that will go towards providing meals to these vulnerable children and infants that are hungry and hurting.
