Help Us to Provide School Meals to Vulnerable School Children, in Upper West, Ghana

According to the Ghana Statistical Service, 48% of population of children between the ages of 3 and 11 years in the Jirapa District, Upper West Region of Ghana are not attending schools. With the high rate of illiteracy and education, the potential development, educational attainment, social and cognitive ability of the children and the livelihood of the children and their parents in the communities are bleak.

Bread of Life International goal is to support the education, health, development, and nutrition of school children from the poverty-stricken communities, poor-households, and food-deficit deprived communities by providing free onsite meals to over 150 students from poor-house-holds  in Buboo and Mwankuri Goziiri, Jirapa Municipality, Upper West Region of Ghana for the academic year.

The School Feeding Program target two schools – Buboo M/A KG and Mwankuri Goziiri located in Upper West Region of Ghana in Jirapa Municipality district. The Buboo MA/ KG school has class levels of K1-K2 and primary 1 with total of 53 students, consist of 30 girls and 23 boys.  The Mwankuri Goziiri also has class levels of K1-K2 and primary 1. How will this Problem Solve the Problem?

Research done by Frontiers in Public Health have shown how early School intervention feeding programs have had a positive impact on school enrollment. The School feeding programs intervention have found to have statistically significant increases in enrollment, with effect size of about 10%. By providing frees meals to students in Buboo and Mwankuri Jirapa district, Bread of Life International seek to encourage and boost school enrollment and attendance, improve literacy and learning for students from poor households in these communities.

Potential Long-term Impact

The potential long-term impact will make a huge difference on the lives of the students and the communities. By introducing the School Feeding program intervention, this will increase the literacy rate and education rate among students from the ages of 3 -11 years, increase school enrollment and reduce absenteeism. In addition, it will increase the social and cognitive ability of the children, increase the students potential for development and educational attainment and reverse the impact of poverty in those communities.

How You Can Support Us

Our goal is to raise $45,000 to cover the whole academic year for over 150 students. Are you able to support this incredible cause? Your contribution will make an immense difference in the lives of these poor students and the communities. Providing meals to the students will increase the literacy rate and education rate among students, increase school enrollment and reduce absenteeism and ultimately increase the social and cognitive ability of the children and potential for development and educational attainment.

We believe that every child deserves a healthy, happy and hunger-free school year.
