Slide Africa hunger bread of life

In the world, where we produce enough food to feed everyone, there are 257 million people in Africa that are still experiencing extreme hunger. We’ve been on a mission to end the hunger crises one African town at a time, and with the help of generous supporters like you, we’re getting closer every day.

Our Approach

• Community Event Outreach

This is our flagship program and we partner with our local partners to reach out to specific impoverished communities and safely distribute individually packaged, fresh meals and drinks to poor and needy infants, children, families, and vulnerable people that are experiencing hunger, hardship and are hurting.

• Family Food Outreach

Bread of Life International collaborates with local partners to identify poor families that are experiencing hunger crises or extreme hardship.   We supplement the food budget of the poor and needy families by providing them with cash and mobile money transfer so they can purchase healthy food of their own choice about their most urgent needs and or we distribute assorted pre-boxed and or pre-bagged food items from local markets

• Mobile Food Outreach

The Mobile Food Outreach Program serves the poor, needy, and vulnerable children and people in hard-to-reach impoverished areas. Through a Mobile Food Outreach Program, a truckload of food goes to the hard-to-reach areas to safely distribute pre-packed boxes of hot meals or products including meat, produced, baked goods, perishable food items such as rice, wheat, maize, poultry to the needy and vulnerable more quickly and flexible.

• Food Bank/Pantry

An impoverish community site where Bread of Life International works with local partners to safely distribute individual packaged of fresh meals, bags or boxes of food directly to those in need who reside in a specified community area.

Creating partnerships that make a difference.

At Bread of Life International, we partner to achieve two important outcomes: to support and feed the most vulnerable people that are hungry and hurting and make a remarkable impact on people’s lives.

We start with a highly integrated approach to developing and sustaining our partnerships.  We work with partners that have strong community-centered approach and with years of experience on the ground and in the trenches engaging with most vulnerable children, families, youth and people that are hungry and hurting and with impoverished communities and further have extensive experience implementing effective, sustainable projects in the areas.

How we work together

We spend considerable amount time conversing with partners and visiting their programs to fully understand the local conditions and how they work. We meet with the families, the children, the youth and the people that the local partners serve to understand and gauge the impact and effectiveness of their programs.

We work as one connected unit with a commitment to establishing collaborations across various areas that require the greatest need and will ultimately benefit the most vulnerable people and alleviate hunger.

With a shared vision as an organization, we align our capabilities, resources and funds and create a collaborative plan of action to ensure that our programs have the resources and funds needed to serve the community and report back on every dollar we spend.  Our partners, our strong team, including the dedicated youth and volunteers help make this possible.

How we do it

Immediate Solutions

This program specifically targets poor, needy children, families and vulnerable people that simply can’t afford food even when local markets are functioning and food is available. In this case, we still need to provide some food and cash assistance

In-Kind food distribution: This involves the distribution of a selection of foods to specific individuals or groups considered particularly vulnerable chosen to meet the energy needs of the people we serve.

Cash and in-kind: this involves physical bank notes, vouchers, or electronic funds, mobile money transfer and cash given to beneficiaries to supplement their food budget or to spend directly on healthy food and move toward self-sufficiency that can empower individual and families to make difference in their own communities.

We accomplish this through our Food Assistance Program

Long-term Solutions

While working with partners to eradicate hunger by investing more in the agriculture sector, expanding agricultural financing to small-scale or household farmers, increase inclusivity, sustainability and nutrition by increasing women-owned agriculture and agribusiness enterprises, supporting Youth employment in agribusiness and food security and prevention of malnutrition and so on…

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

Bread of Life International operates efficiently to reduce cost by relying on dedicated youth and volunteers to assist with our programs. We operate with minimal fundraising and administrative costs: We strive to commit $0.95 of every dollar directly to our programs.

The remaining funds go into processing fees, transaction fees, and money transfer fees charged by the merchants. You can help us to cover 100% of the transaction and processing fees on your donation so more of your donation goes directly to alleviating hunger.

We are committed to a policy of transparency and disclosure by ensuring that key financial information is publicly available with guarantees of good management.

Bread of Life International collaborated with SOS Children’s Village to turn your emergency donation to feed over thousand and needy children and families during the 2020 Christmas Holidays.

We have all heard the saying, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. Yet, food insecurity in many parts of Africa goes well beyond the bounds of the well-known “teach a man to fish” proverb.

The truth is, we all need the right tools to succeed. Unless we are willing to donate some fishing poles, lures and line to help out, that man will never properly learn how to fish. In the same vein, we cannot expect food insecure families and children to simply work harder to eat. We need to provide the basic tools necessary for every familie to cast their own lines to opportunity.

We believe that this starts with direct aid, such as safely distributing free hot meals and supplementing the food budget of poor and needy families so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency and that can empower individuals and families to make differences in their own communities.

While working directly with the communities, families, partners and govt to find and address the root causes and identify long-term solutions to eliminate hunger.

Health: Hunger means people are less prone to disease and thus often unable to earn more and improve their livelihoods.

Education: For children who are getting enough food to eat, it reduces developmental impairments, absenteeism. Most significantly, performance improves and drop-out rates decrease.

Gender Inequality: Gender inequalities influence food access. Specific gender-related issues include some cultural practices that limit women’s access to productive resources, agricultural credit and use of agricultural equipment
